Odessa McArdle, 83, of Ashford, AL died peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 04, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) or 1:00 PM (CST) on Saturday May 10, 2025, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Jimmy Dale Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ms. McArdle was born August 18, 1941, in Haleburg, AL daughter of the late Hubit McArdle and Shirley Viola Johnson McArdle. She was an LPN and worked at various local and out of state hospitals caring for patients.
She was well known for her love of quilting. Quilting was a passion she and her sisters shared. They would often schedule time regularly to quilt together. Her niece, Dawn Black, continues the family tradition and has helped to complete one of the quilts she had begun for a special friend. These precious treasures are worth more than gold to us and are heirlooms now.
Ms. McArdle enjoyed reading and working in her vegetable garden, often canning the vegetables she grew. She also loved to raise flowers. In her spare time or at the drop of a hat she loved to travel. She never really needed an itinerary, she just loved to go. However, the most important thing to her was family. She was also the unofficial genealogist of the family. Thanks to her we know a lot about our family’s history.
Thank you for all of the beautiful quilts, flowers, delicious canned goods, but most of all the sweet memories.
Ms. McArdle was preceded in death by her parents, Hubit and Shirley McArdle; eight siblings, a daughter, Denise Jones, two grandsons, Jacob Creamer and Michael Cirone and a great-grandson, Kelley Shiver.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Creamer (special friend, John Bass), Ashford, AL; three sons, Ray Harbin (Lisa), Johnny Holloway (Pam), and Lee McArdle, numerous grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
