Rachael Wilkerson Benefield

Rachael Wilkerson Benefield, 87, of West Point, GA passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside.

Rachael was born in Dawson, GA on December 27, 1938, to Lud and Sally White Wilkerson. She worked for several years as a Project Manager at the Georgia Department of Transportation. Rachael was a loving and dedicated wife to her husband Charles Edward Benefield who sadly passed away in July, 2015. She is survived by their three children, Lisa C. Peters and husband Gary of North Carolina, Denise Woodill and husband George “Woody” of Upatoi, GA, and Charles Benefield and wife Alicia of West Point, GA.

Over the years, Rachael’s role as mother excitedly expanded to the role of grandmother to five very beautiful grandchildren: Gary Glenn Fitz, Jr., Rachael Marie Hilton and husband Avery, Morgan Leigh Benefield and fiancée Drew Goodwin, Kelli Danielle Carnes and husband Jonathan, and George Harry Woodill III. Her five great-grandchildren, Cailynn Cromley, Brayden Cromley, Leah McKenzie Fitz, Beau Ryan Carnes and Levi Carnes, filled her heart with even more love and joy. Rachael’s memory will continue to live in the hearts of each member of her family. Her presence will be dearly missed.

Other than her husband and parents, Rachael is preceded in death by her grandson Gary Glenn Fitz, Jr.
