Mr. Ranzel Max Baxley

April 24, 1943 — October 24, 2023

Mr. Ranzel “Max” Baxley, was welcomed into the arms of His Savior on Tuesday, October 24th. His firm belief in Jesus as Savior, his unconditional love for his wife Ruth, and his strength of encouragement and support to all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will be his legacy throughout the generations.

Max’s, lovingly called Pawpaw by his children, love for the outdoors and God’s creation was contagious. He loved to search for old treasures, but he valued deeply the greatest treasures he found in his family. Pawpaw listened well, loved well and served well. He gave all he had to the ones he loved and shined his bright light for Jesus in his service to others. To get to be loved by Pawpaw was a gift we each cherish deeply in our hearts!

He was preceded in death by his parents Mack and Bell Baxley, brothers Robert and Chuck Baxley, brother-in-law Jerry Reeves, and son Danny Horne.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Baxley, brothers Larry and Roy Baxley, sisters Verlon Grimes and Mary Benton, brothers-in-law, Frank and Claude Reeves, his children Robert and Barbara Harris, Darrel and Theresa Harris, Debbie Horne, and Sapryna and Tim Balstad, his grandchildren, Clay and Brittany Horne, Tyler and Cori Horne, Seth and Meg Horne, Ridley and Chad Stearman, Halston and John Zehr, Gunnar and Heather Balstad, Micah and Grant Janik, Megan and Blake Breimann, Mollie and Stephen Terry, John and Sara Harris, and Mallory and David Downey, and a host of great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm EDT (3:00 pm CDT) Friday, October 27, 2023 at his church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Salem, AL.  Interment will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 3:00 until 4:00 pm EDT, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
