Raymond Charles Wetzel

July 7, 1937 — July 31, 2025

Columbus

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Charles Wetzel, a beloved husband father, brother, and friend. Raymond departed this world on July 31, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 7, 1937, in Hopewell, Missouri, he lived a life rich in meaning, purpose, and love. Raymond dedicated his professional life as a talented barber at the Victory Drive Bowling Alley Barbershop, where he served his community for over 25 years until his retirement. His friends and patrons were drawn not only to his skill but also to his intelligent and engaging personality. Beyond the barber's chair, he imparted wisdom and comfort through his volunteer work with the Valley Rescue Mission, embodying the true essence of service to others.

Raymond was a long-time member of Riverview Assembly of God, and his passion for ministry was evident in his five years spent traveling and ministering to those in need. His contributions to the lives of others were immeasurable. He took immense pride in his ministry and in the beautiful family he built with his wife Janice.

In addition to his calling as a barber and minister, Raymond was also known for his musical talents. As a bass guitarist and singer, he harmonized with his brothers in the Wetzel Brothers Trio, bringing joy to many gatherings. In his free time, Raymond enjoyed fishing with his brothers and riding motorcycles, embracing the freedom and adventure these journeys brought.

Raymond cherished his family dearly. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Janice; daughter, Deborah Jan Robinson; son, Wayne Wetzel (Lynn); grandchildren Jana Marie Skipper (Michael) and Tommy Eaton, and the joy of his life multiplied with the arrival of four great-grandchildren — Conner, Clayton, Jayden, and Brittney; and brother James Wetzel (Linda). Each of his family members held a special place in his heart, and he regarded each moment spent with them as a precious gift.

Raymond is reunited in eternity with his parents Raymond Clyde Wetzel and Helen Elizabeth Tidwell Wetzel, along with his brothers, John David Wetzel, Paul Wetzel, and sister Pearl Ann Davis.

As we gather to remember Raymond's life, we celebrate the legacy of love, laughter, and compassion he leaves behind. He was truly a beacon of light for all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those touched by his unwavering kindness.
