Robert Varner Head Sr. 85 of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully at his home on August 2, 2025.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Steve Pace officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Varner was born to Vera and J.B. Head on August 31st. 1939. After graduating from Central High School, Varner went to work for the Railroad, then Civil Service at Ft. Benning and eventually retired from the U. S. Postal service. He had a love of coaching, devoting many years to Dixie Youth baseball and league softball. His incredible knowledge of the game, along with his competitive spirit produced city and state championships. Varner was an avid golfer who had 6 holes in one and was a staunch Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He was a devout Christian and a long time member of Summerville Baptist Church. Varner will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elton Head.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Jacqueline Rhodes Head; his children, Tonya Head Williams and husband Keith, Bobby Head, Jeff Dudley, Jody Griffin, Miranda Holcombe and Jim Hall; a sister, Judy Nemeth; a brother Burrell Head and wife Betty; his grandson Tripp Jones and wife Madison; a great-granddaughter Emersyn Jones; several nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
