Roy Donald Johnson

Roy Donald Johnson, 75, of Hurtsboro, Alabama, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 29, 2023, while at Piedmont Midtown in Columbus, Georgia.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM EST (10:00 AM CST) on July 3, 2023, at Hurtsboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Miller and Allen Roelkey officiating. Interment will follow at Hurtsboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening at Vance Brooks Funeral Home located at 3738 U.S. Highway 431 North Phenix City, Alabama from 6:00-8:00 PM EST (5:00-7:00 PM CST).

Mr. Johnson was born in Eufaula, Alabama, the son of the late Roy M. Johnson and Frances Trammell Johnson. He was raised in the countryside of Barbour County, Alabama until he met the love of his life and eventually moved to Hurtsboro, Alabama. “Duck” as he was known by his friends and coworkers made work one of the joys of his life. He was member of Atlanta Ironworkers Union Local 387 for twenty five years and United Steel Workers Union Local 1972 for thirty two years. In addition to his work, Donald enjoyed going to the beach and he was a big follower of Auburn University Basketball. He was member of Hurtsboro Methodist Church. Above all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his sister Sarah Johnson Gilmer.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-six years Rosemary Duffey Johnson; daughters Renee Williams (Gary) of Hatchechubbee, AL and Jill Wyrosdick (Jimmy) of Montgomery, AL; sister Sandra Clark (Jim) of St. Johns, FL and grandchildren Alex Wyrosdick, Jake Wyrosdick, Avery Wyrosdick and Rachel Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to either Hurtsboro Methodist Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 215 Hurtsboro, AL or Comer United Methodist Church 56 Grant Brothers Road Midway, AL, 36053.
