Rudy Blount Jr.

Rudy Blount, Jr. age 68, resident of Cataula, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 10 a.m. with Reverend Donnie Lumpkin officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Slocomb, Alabama at 3 p.m. EST.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral from 9-10 a.m.

Mr. Blount, son of the late Rudolph Talmadge Blount, Sr. and Edna Earl Collins Blount, was born February 18,1955 in Columbus, Georgia.  He was an active member of Church on the Rock, Phenix City, Alabama.  Mr. Blount retired from Pratt and Whitney where he faithfully worked for over 20 years.   Mr. Blount was well known as a drag racer, where most called him “Mr. Ford”.  Drag racing was his past time, racing for over 50 years at both local and out-of-town tracks.  He made numerous trips to car shows, including Myrtle Beach and Pigeon Forge.  When he wasn’t racing, many would find him at home either watching races on television, playing with his dogs – Smokey, Buddy, or Sonny, or working in his yard.

The family remembers him as a man in his Mustangs, racing his Mustangs, working on his Mustangs – was an exceptional teacher, detailed oriented, and a very patient man.

Other than his parents, Mr. Blount was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Blount and Pattie West; and one brother, Jeffrey Blount.  He is survived by one daughter, Angela Morgan Blount of Savannah, Georgia; one aunt, Nelda Nolan and her husband Richard of Rock Hill, South Carolina; cousin, Fred McGowan of Cataula, Georgia; former spouse, Lynn Brammer of Columbus; special friends, Vernon and Pattie Allen of Talbotton, Georgia; many other relatives and friends.
