Sandra Oakes “Nana” Salazar

Sandra “Nana” Oakes Salazar, 69, of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Columbus Hospice House, with her family by her side.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM ET on Monday, May 8, 2023, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, with Rev. Jonathan Pike officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM EST. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Salazar was born in Pike County, Alabama, the daughter of the late William Phillip “Benny” Oakes and Bennie Lou Faulk Oakes. Her father relocated the family to Phenix City, Alabama where she lived for the remainder of her life. “Nana” as she was known to her family and friends, enjoyed shopping and cleaning. She was a member of the “Sassy Seniors” at the Central Activities Center and enjoyed performing with them at the annual Relay for Life events. Mrs. Salazar enjoyed performing community service and also helping others. She never wanted any recognition for helping others. She always felt it was her place to take care of children, older adults and animals. Above all, she loved her family and spending time with them.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Salazar was preceded in death by her sister Linda Lou Oakes and a grandson Coleton Dean Brown.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of thirty-four years Billy Salazar; daughters Nona Adams (Bryan) of Phenix City, AL and Lynda Salazar of Tampa, FL; brother Ronald Oakes (Wanda) of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren Karsin Brown (Jacob) of Phenix City, AL, Billie Brown of Phenix City, AL and Danielle Cruz of Deltona, FL and many extended family members and friends.
