Sarah Helen Mathis Miller

Mrs. Sarah Helen Mathis Miller, 86, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Monday, November 17, 2025 at Arabella Health and Wellness in Phenix City, AL.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm EST, Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Grant Parker and Rev. Chris Herbert officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller was born July 9, 1939 in Geneva County, AL, daughter of the late Bernard E. Mathis and Mary Lou Holloway Mathis. She was a school bus driver for Lee County Schools for over 30 years. Mrs. Miller loved her job and loved the students. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and camping. Mrs. Miller also enjoyed sports and pulled for the Smiths Station football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Atlanta Braves. She was a long time member of Midway Baptist Church, where she sung in the choir.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Van Robbins and George Miller; two sons, Ricky V. Robbins and Glenn Miller; a sister, Barbara Sides and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her step-daughters, Debbie Smith, Kathy Miller Bode and Susan Retzer; sisters, Martha Morefield, Mary Frances Head and husband Billy Ray, and Sandy Clay and husband Chuck; a daughter-in-law, Gwen Robbins; a brother-in-law, Billy Sides; grandchildren, Dustin Robbins, Clay Miller, Sammy Miller, several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, several extended family members and friends.
