Scott Miller

April 5, 1949 — May 9, 2026

West Point, GA

Mr. Scott Miller, 77, of West Point, GA passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the West Georgia Medical Center in West Point, GA.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm EST Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, at the funeral home.

Scott Miller was born on April 5, 1949 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Paul “Jack” Miller and Agnes Miller. He graduated Central High School in 1967, where he was a standout wide receiver. He tried out as a walk-on at Auburn University, but quickly realized that college athletes were bigger, stronger and much faster than he imagined. So in 1969, he began his 40 year career at Mead Westvaco. He loved the mill and his coworkers, and the life it provided for his family, his wife Lois and their two children, Jeff and Rhonda.

Scott was a hands on dad, coaching Jeff’s baseball teams and cheering Rhonda on in softball and dance. He shared with Jeff a love of golf and together they won the Mead tournament countless times. In retirement, Scott served as golf coach at Glenwood School, mentoring many young men who came to love him as more than a coach but as their biggest supporter and friend.

Scott was an enthusiastic outdoorsman. He fished Lake Eufaula, Yuchi Creek, and the surrounding area on his days off. The freezer would be filled with crappie so we could all enjoy huge fish fries. Deer hunting was a passion in his younger years - maybe at times sneaking in on Mead-owned land where the deer were more plentiful. He once rescued a baby deer he named Rambo. When a neighbor threatened to shoot Rambo for eating his prized roses, the deer was rehomed to Pratt & Whitney. In his later years he took up duck hunting. Sharing a blind in Arkansas with friends and family and his loyal dog Nova created unforgettable memories. He burned up the roads between Arkansas and Georgia…traveling for hours just to come home for a day so he didn’t miss an event.

Family was everything to Scott. He was the second of 6 children and stayed close to his brother Paul and 4 younger sisters. He was proud of his 2 children and the 6 grandsons they gave him. He was rarely seen without a Miller boy or Henry boy, cheering them on at sporting events and introducing them to his outdoor hobbies. Scott loved a beach trip and the Miller Family vacations were known for fitting 20 plus people in a 2 bedroom condo.

Scott married Penny in 2012, and with her came 3 children that he loved as his own. They moved to family property in West Point, GA and transformed it into the Miller Family Farm. There he tended to the hay field and lake, the chickens, goats and dogs. More recently, he became a nanny to new granddaughter, Willa Kate. We are grateful for the love and happiness that Scott and Penny shared for 14 years, and for their devotion and commitment to each other.

Scott had a way of making everyone in his circle feel important. He made the phone calls - not the texts. He would drop by just to say hello and catch up. He showed up at your ballgames, parties, weddings and births. He remembered your birthday. He ALWAYS went the extra mile.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lois Miller and a brother, Paul Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife Penny Miller; children, Rhonda Henry, Jeff Miller (Tracy), Tommy McGowan, John Michael McGowan and Mackenzie McGowan; sisters, Leigh Dees (William), Claire Milligan (Gil), Dawn Regelman (Keith) and Gwen Cogar (Richard); grandchildren, Colby (Amy), Blaine (Jeni), Daulton (Carley), Avery (Cole), Reilly, Cole (Brinley), Cade, Cason and Willa Kate; great-grandchildren, Langston, Rowen, Allie, Jonah, Luke and Evelyn; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Glenwood Golf Team at 5801 Summerville Road, Smiths Station, AL 36877.
