Sharon W. Harkness

July 22, 1943 — May 3, 2023

Sharon Wokurka Harkness died peacefully on May 3rd. Born July 22, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo, she was the only child of Bud and Jean Wokurka, who preceded her in death. Besides St. Louis, the family lived outside of Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and settled in Forest Park, Georgia. She met her adoring Robert at Southern Bell, and their active dating included waterskiing, camping, and time with family. They were married for 53 years, before his passing in 2016. She was proud of her boys, and their spouses: Alan (Amy), and David (Katy). A homemaker, Sharon enjoyed gardening with Robert, including growing their vegetables, and nurturing her flower beds. She was a voracious reader, and enjoyed watching college basketball, trips to the beach, camping, and traveling (by car). Sharon was a Cub Scout den leader, active in her church, serving as its treasurer. A point of major pride was completing her bachelor’s degree in finance at the age of 53. She loved hearing her boys play their musical instruments.

Sharon adored her grandchildren: Erik, Emily, Ian, and Quinn. She was a first-class supporter of their scouting, sports, and musical activities. Late in life, Sharon enjoyed living in Columbus under the same roof as her grandchildren.

A private, family memorial service will follow. In lieu flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army, Easter Seals, or the Methodist Home for Children and Youth.
