Sherri Charlene Carpenter

Sherri Carpenter, 68, of Columbus, GA, passed away surrounded by family on May 31, 2025. A private graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery at a later date.

Sherri Carpenter was born to Ollie and Charles Hamilton in Muleshoe, Texas. was a candy striper at age 16 at Lowndes General Hospital. She married her teenage sweetheart Dennis Jewell and had two children, Shandis Miller and Chris Jewell. She was a military wife, living in different countries, to include Korea and Germany. She raised her children traveling, seeing other cultures and teaching them to love every one and to serve their community. She was a volunteer at her children’s middle school in California. Sherri was a foster parent to many children in Georgia. Her most valued treasure was her family. She had a very large family, who loved her and will miss her terribly. No one loved going out to dinner with her family like she did. She was proud to see her children walking the stage the same day, graduating from the same college. She held all of her grandchildren the day they were born. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

In her later years, Sherri struggled with her health. We pray she is now resting with her mother, whom she missed dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, baby brother, nephew Steven, and her husband Scott who was killed when he was robbed in 1998. She never remarried. She endured a life full of pain but found joy in her family.

Sherri is survived by her son Christopher Jewell (Carley), his children Anna and Shawn Jewell; her daughter Shandis Miller and her children Olivia “Ollie” Phaneuf and Deacon Miller; her son in law Steve Miller; her adopted son Lee Griffin; her sister Karla Easter and two brothers Charles Hamilton (Jennifer) and Jackie Hamilton (Lisa). She had a very large family: multiple nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, including one on the way. She loved them all so much.
