Steven Ray Moody, 72, of Phenix City, AL formerly of Battle Creek, MI died while at Brookside Glen Assisted Living, Columbus, GA on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at Noon (EST) on Tuesday, February 03, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church, 2915 14th Ave, Columbus, GA 31904 with Pastor Seth Hon and Pastor Gary Darnell officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM (EST) on Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Moody was born September 17, 1953, on Sampson Air Force Base, New York. He was the son of the late Herman Ray Moody and Kathleen Abernathy Cantrell. He was a HVAC Technician with Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek, MI for many years. He was an active member of Urbandale Baptist and Prairie Baptist Church when he lived in MI. After moving to Phenix City, Mr. Moody became an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. He was always first and foremost a witness for Christ whether at work or in public. Mr. Moody had a scripture verse for everything. He was an ordained deacon, a vital part of the children’s bus ministries and the children’s ministries. Mr. Moody was “infamous” for his dad jokes or one liners. These jokes were used to put others at ease and to share his faith.
Mr. Moody was an avid sports fan. He loved the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Pistons. He also enjoyed the University of Michigan sports.
Mr. Moody was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Moody and Kathleen Cantrell; two sisters, Gayle Barrus and Gwen Stalo, a brother, Greg Moody and sister-in-law Linda Moody.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Doris D. Tesch Moody, Phenix City, AL; two daughters, Heather Darnell (Pastor Gary), Waterford, PA and Bethany “Buffy” Cowser (David), Phenix City, AL; two sons, Paul Moody (Keri), Phenix City, AL and Pastor Timothy Moody (Megan), Battle Creek, MI; two sisters, Gloria Coger (Larry) Battle Creek, MI and Barbara Moody, Cottonwood, AZ; one brother, Scott Moody, Battle Creek, MI; thirteen grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
