Theodore "Ted" W. Leatherland, Jr.

Theodore “Ted” W. Leatherland, Jr., 88, of Phenix City, AL died at his home on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, while under the care of Compassus Hospice.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Derrick Millirons officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Leatherland was born October 01, 1937, in Miami, FL son of the late Theodore Leatherland, Sr. and Elizabeth (Betty) McCallum Leatherland.

He had retired from Aeronautical Radio Incorporated with Southern Railroad . Ted was a part of the Civil Air Patrol in Columbus, GA. He was also lifelong HAM Radio operator know throughout Georgia and East Alabama. His call sign was W4DUF, however his is now a “silent key”, Rest in Peace W4DUF.

Mr. Leatherland was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Dolly Leatherland; a brother, Paul Leatherland; Mr. Ted’s wife, Martha Franke Leatherland and the mother of his sons, Margo K. Leatherland.

Survivors include his two sons, Terry Leatherland (Nancy), Houston, TX and Jay Leatherland, Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Terra Figari (Grant), Dallas, TX and Jayson Leatherland (Lauren Duncan Leatherland), Columbus, GA; one great-granddaughter, Reaves; “adopted” son and caregiver, David Manning, Phenix City, AL; sisters-in-law, Zukie Smith, Huntsville, AL and Jane Leatherland, WI; nieces, Samantha Mimna (Jamie), Danielle Thew (David) and Amy Paterson (Marc); great nieces and nephews, Josiah Mimma, Dross Thew, Blake Thew and Zoe Thew; other family members and friends.
