Verlan Kilpatrick Harden, 85, of Phenix City, AL passed on May 27, 2025. A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL, 36867, on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:00 am EST followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am EST officiated by Pastor Jon McLain.
Verlan Harden was born on October 14,1939 in Pike County, AL. Verlan graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, GA in 1957 at the top of her class. After marrying the love of her life, Virlyn Russell Harden, she moved to Phenix City, AL from Columbus, GA. She worked for Bell South, now AT&T, until retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the First Congregational Christian Church of Phenix City where she was very involved with Womens Fellowship and was treasurer of the church. Verlan attended Village Church and Bethany Baptist Church as well. Mrs. Verlan loved God dearly and was very active in the community and church. She also was very close to her family and loved to spend time with them. She enjoyed fish Fridays at Rose Hill and JR’s and loved to cook. Verlan will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Verlan Harden is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virlyn Russell Harden; mother, Beatrice Kilpatrick; sister, Nadine Register; son in law, Randy McMullin; and grandson, Matthew McMullin.
Verlan is survived by her daughters, Tracie McMullin, Lisa (Arthur) Hatcher, and Misty Harden; grandchildren, Jeremy (Carisa) Hatcher, Brian (Samantha) Hatcher, Brandon (Laura) Hatcher, Amanda (Wade) Dudley, Skylar Harden, and Alia Harden (Cameron); great-grandchildren, Shane Hatcher, Brenden McMullin, Cole Hatcher, Dylan Dudley, Mack Dudley, and Maverick Hatcher; sister in law, Margie Harden and special nieces and nephews, David and Linda, Kenneth and Sheila, and David and Tammy as well as other special nieces and nephews.
The family gives a special thanks to Columbus Hospice for their care and dedication towards Mrs. Verlan in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Columbus Hospice.
