Voncile Donaldson Mitchell Hicks, 96, of Seale, AL died peacefully while at the Gardens of Calvary, Columbus, GA.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM (EST) on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Chris Herbert officiating. Interment will follow in Seale United Methodist Church Cemetery, Seale, AL. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hicks was born on January 07, 1930, in Coffee County, AL daughter of the late D.W. Cordle and Sue Belle Donaldson Cordle. She had retired from Southern Phenix Mills as a Warper Tender and Spinner after 20 years of service. She was a member of Silver Run Baptist Church, Seale, AL. Mrs. Hicks loved to work in her yard where she grew beautiful flowers and enjoyed camping. She found great peace sitting on her porch watching the birds and enjoying her beautiful yard.

We will miss her in our lives and all of the tender love she bestowed on all of us. She was always quick to offer a Band-Aid with a kiss for a skinned knee, offer “free” medical advice or just be there when someone was in need. These tender qualities will be missed but remembered every time we offer to help others.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents, D.W. and Sue Belle Cordle; her husbands, Arlin Mitchell, Sr. and Norman Alton Hicks; a son, Arlin “Junior” Mitchell, Jr.; a brother, Clendol “Billy” Donaldson.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue Whitaker, Smiths Station, AL and Gail Spann (Wayne) Seale, AL: a son, Roger Mitchell (Kay), Seale, AL; six grandchildren, LaDonna W. Cowart, Jason W. Spann, both of Seale, AL, Tara Haux (Michael), Hatchechubbee, AL, Melissa M. Charles (Mike), Kirstin Berthiaume (Matt) all of Seale, AL and Meagan W. Wyrick , Smiths Station, AL; eight, greatgrandchildren, Mitchell W. Cowart, Rylan M. Cowart, Case Charles, Ty Charles, Ruby Andrews, Jordyn Getskow, Josie Getskow and Jaylee Whitaker; several other family members and friends.
