Wanda Ann Grimes

July 2, 1946 — June 20, 2022

Wanda Ann Grimes, 75, of Columbus, GA transitioned to Heaven on Monday, June 20, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital. Her Homegoing Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Evangel Church in Columbus on Saturday, June 25, 2022 beginning at 2:00 PM with Pastor Paul Thomas officiating. The interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service.

Wanda was born on July 2, 1946 in Columbus, GA to Moody Davis and June Loyd Davis. She was born very prematurely at 26½ weeks and was not expected to live. But God Had Other Plans. Though she faced many physical challenges, she lived a life ministering to others with the love of Christ.

A spiritual mentor to many, Bible teacher, and published author, Wanda was an active part of her church family whom she loved very much at Evangel Temple. She worked in Ladies Ministries, founded Strait Gate and Agape Ministries and faithfully taught and ministered to women at the Muscogee County Jail. Wanda’s effect on the inmates was so profound that when she reached her 25th year of service, Mayor Teresa Tomlinson declared February 4, 2014 to be “Wanda Ann Grimes Day”.

Survivors include her mother Robbie June Loyd Freeman, her brother Roger Davis, and her cousins Gail Stills and Steve Ogburn. She loved and considered as family her longtime caregivers Tameka Scott, ShaVasha Thomas, Audrey Thomas, Sicilly Burch, Anna Foster and Silva Hillard. She also loved their children and claimed them as her own grandchildren.

Wanda is preceded in death by her father Moody Davis, loving and devoted husband Kenneth Grimes, precious and only son Jason Mathew Grimes, and her beloved “Daddy Harlin” Howard Harlin Freeman.

Pallbearers will be Tyrek Scott, Damarrea Scott, Cortez West, Brandon Scott, Grant Collins and Jonathan Cronin.

Wanda’s beautiful smile, joyful and loving spirit, and servant’s heart will be greatly missed but the impact she made for her Lord will live on forever in the lives of those who were blessed to know her as daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
