Mr. William Max Herring, Sr. of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, October 21, 2025 at Parkwood Health Care in Phenix City, AL.
A private memorial service will be held for his family at a later date.
Mr. Herring was born September 11, 1940 in New Brockton, AL, son of the late Cleopatra Lamb Herring and A. B. Herring. He was an athlete with Central High School during his high school years, playing basketball, football and baseball. Later in life, he played semi-professional baseball. Additionally, he was a huge fan of Alabama football. Mr. Herring worked for Burnham Service Corporation for 37 years in numerous roles and retired as part of the Executive Management team. After his tenure at Burnham’s he traveled all over the country as a Logistics Consultant, while opening and operating a Bar B-Q restaurant named after his father, called A B’s Bar-B Que in Warner Robins, GA. He later moved back to his home of Phenix City, where he was a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his children, Gina Herring Harper and husband James; William Max Herring, Jr., William Bryant Herring, Kelly Herring and husband Matthew; grandchildren, Jamie Lauren Harper, James Eric Harper, Lydia Mills, Oliver Mills, Maron Mills, Lila Mills; a great-grandson, Cason Heath McConnell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Golden Acres Baptist Church’s “Elevate” Program, 3405 South Railroad St., Phenix City, AL 36867.
His family will miss him deeply, but he has left them with an abundance of memories they will always cherish.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Parkwood Health Care and to all the members of Golden Acres Baptist Church, who prayed for and visited him during his illness.
