William Joseph “Pete” Clegg, 81, of Smiths Station, AL died at Canterbury Nursing Facility on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Friday, July 25, 2025, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Billy Fortune officiating. Active pallbearers will be Bum Clegg, Arvin Clegg, Brian Clegg, Trey Jones, Danny Dueitt and Joey Dueitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Holmes and Bubba Worrell. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Clegg was born May 15, 1944, in Phenix City, AL son of the late Charles “Boots” Clegg and Marie Colwell Clegg. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union # 52 for over 55 years. Mr. Pete was an avid golfer and played every chance he got. Mr. Pete was a part of the Dixie Seniors Golf Club. They made regular rounds to area golf courses. He was also an avid Alabama Football Fan! Fall was a fun time of year that he enjoyed with family and friends on game days.
We will remember him as a hardworking family man. He was a good husband, great father/grandfather, brother and friend. We will always miss him, but he is forever cherished in our hearts.
Mr. Clegg was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Clegg; his wife of 42 years, Sheila Ann Bruhl Clegg and a son, Matthew Clegg.
Survivors include his three sons, Chris Clegg (Brandi), Alexander City, AL, Shannon Dueitt (Angie), Citronelle, AL and Todd Dueitt (Jennifer), Phenix City, AL; two brothers, Charles “Bum” Clegg (Carol) and Arvin Clegg (Linda); six grandchildren, Dru Bennett, Trey Jones, Taylor Clegg, Gracie Dueitt, Danny Dueitt and Joey Dueitt; several nieces, nephews and friends.
